If you are a person with an intellectual disability, autism or cognitive impairment Melbourne Polytechnic’s Certificate II in Work Education 22631VIC (Hospitality Stream) will help you find your path to your dream career. This qualification will build on skills learned in the Certificate I courses and continue to build confidence and essential skills for entering the workforce. You'll learn in the classroom and on the job through hospitality-focused learning activities and work placement opportunities. You'll develop workplace skills through practical hospitality experiences including food preparation, kitchen operations, teamwork, workplace safety and food handling practices.
At Melbourne Polytechnic, we have a long history in disability sector. Our qualified careers advisors and teachers will develop an individualised program tailored to your interests and goals. Melbourne Polytechnic’s unique industry partnerships offer field trips in the areas of warehouse, retail and theatre. Plus, all students have the opportunity to gain real-life experience before they graduate, with 250 hours of practical placement, followed by an evaluation to determine your strengths and future goals. The course also includes three workshops for Parents as Career Partners. Your teachers will work with you at the end of the program, preparing an action plan to follow once the course is complete and assisting with active job searching. Best of all, class sizes are limited to ten students, so you’ll receive individual attention.
You may gain entry-level employment opportunities in hospitality-related environments, including cafés, bakeries, food service operations, kitchens and community hospitality settings.You may also pathway to further vocational education and training aligned with their career goals.

You will complete 250 hours of work placement. Plan and organise this with one of our teachers, then evaluate the experience afterwards. In conjunction with a teacher, you’ll identify your strengths, weaknesses and future learning requirements to support employment.

On-campus

Assessment methods will respect your individual learning style and may include discussion, demonstration, verbal questioning, short answer, written, role play and observation. Methods may be varied in response to specific learning needs.

Amenities fees are used to improve non-academic services including libraries, counselling services, student support, and recreational activities.
Applicants to complete a Work Education program application for interview form, which will be followed by an interview.

Applicants must be post-compulsory school age learners with evidence of a permanent cognitive impairment and/or intellectual disability.
Work Education students are required to complete and return an application form and attend an informal interview to find the best suited class and discuss any additional requirements that may be needed to support studies. All future students who have submitted an application will be contacted via email to schedule the interview between August and December.
Students will need to also organise a Unique Student Identifier (USI) if they don't have one. This can be done online. Please bring this along to the interview session with any other documents and identification required which will be outlined to you in the email.
